chia charge flapjack
On my most recent adventure up to the beautiful North York Moors for the Berghaus Trail Chase, all contestants were given a free Chia Charge original flapjack on registration. I saved mine for after the event and here is what my verdict is.
Now that my training runs are getting longer, I've needed to find a find a suitable alternative to a banana and coffee for a pre-work run. Being given the Chia Charge flapjack from the Berghaus Trail Chase was timed perfectly with my need for something more substantial on my longer runs.
First of all, the taste- really quite amazing! I love flapjacks but can be quite fussy about them. This one has just the right amount of golden syrup in to make the texture slightly moist but not overpoweringly sweet.
Secondly, the ingredients- Unlike most things these days, you can pretty much taste every ingredient in the flapjack. No artificial flavours, just true ingredients.
Then the size - spot on.
And the availability - it's retailed in an increasing number of gyms, sports stores and hiking shops if you have access to any of them. My best bet is buying them online. There is a next day delivery service if paid extra.
The effect on my run - it's always hard to tell if you're just having a good run or if it's what you have varied on the run. However, I tried my first Chia Charge flapjack on a 12 mile run and felt good the whole way. Energy levels remained high and therefore had a really enjoyable run from start to finish! I was also quicker than usual without noticeably pushing myself harder so generally it made me feel really good!
Customer service - very quick, friendly and useful.
Nutritional information from the website -
Price - no more or less than i'd expect. I'd definitely pay this price due to the high quality.
Lastly, the salt flakes- these really are the icing on the cake. The balance between sweet and salt is just right and the combination works perfectly together. Just the right amount of kick!
I love these so much that I have already ordered my first pack of 20 with 4 free banana flavours to test! I think these are also going to be my breakfast choice for the KAEM this year :)
Winner!!!
